He managed to give personalities to three teen protagonists, an enigmatic demon, and a telepathic hellhound (not to mention various side characters that include a 5-year-old little girl with a lisp). As good as the dialogue is, my favourite part of Ray's narration is the prose. He took my story and energised it with the simplest inflections, tone, and cadence.
